Every move you make

In 1983 Gordon Sumner aka Sting, released "Every move you make" with the Police. There is an ironic twist to the song, given that it was by the Police, for indeed they do watch, like big brother, ready to pounce if we err. However, it was a love song, not a policeman's rap.

The words speak of watching over every breath and move as we break our bonds:
Every breath you take and every move you make
Every bond you break, every step you take, I'll be watching you
Every single day and every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay, I'll be watching you

Oh can't you see you belong to me?
How my poor heart aches with every step you take
Every move you make and every vow you break
Every smile you fake, Every claim you stake, I'll be watching you

The song echoes the sentiments of a greater watcher, who indeed watches over our fake smiles and broken vows, but loves us anyway and watches us breathe, listens to us crying in our sleep, follows us as we stumble through the streets and carries us when we are too weary.

David said of the same Great Shepherd, "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death you are with me. Surely your goodness and mercy will follow me all my days and I will dwell in your house forever."

Sure we have our fake smiles and broken vows, such is life - its a struggle to get through. Yet, whoever and wherever we are, He is nearer and will never forsake us.
